Google Business Profile controls a large part of how a restaurant appears across Google Search and Maps. A disciplined cleanup can remove wrong turns, closed-door arrivals, and broken menu clicks.
Verify ownership and reduce access risk
Confirm the profile is verified and that current owners or managers have access through their own accounts. Remove former staff and agencies that no longer need control. Keep more than one trusted owner so the profile is not tied to a single inbox.
Choose the most accurate primary category
The primary category should describe the core business, not every possible occasion. Add only relevant secondary categories. A full-service Italian restaurant is not also a caterer, bakery, event venue, and bar unless those are real, customer-facing services.
Reconcile the core facts
Check the business name, map pin, street address, phone number, website, regular hours, and holiday hours against the restaurant’s own site. Do not add promotional phrases to the official name.
Use direct destination links
The website button should lead to the canonical home page. Menu, reservations, and ordering actions should go to the most direct working page. Add campaign parameters when a platform allows them so analytics can separate profile traffic.
Complete useful attributes
Review service options, accessibility, amenities, parking, payment, and dining attributes. Only select an attribute the restaurant can consistently deliver. Incorrect “outdoor seating” is worse than leaving it unclaimed.
Use current, representative photos
Show the exterior in daylight, the entrance, dining room, a few signature dishes, and any patio or private room. Avoid uploading twenty nearly identical plates in one session. Remove outdated owner-uploaded photos when possible; customer photos follow separate policies.
Build a legitimate review routine
Ask real guests for honest feedback with a direct review link or QR code. Do not offer a free item, discount, or contest entry in exchange. Reply briefly and specifically. A factual complaint needs investigation; a taste preference usually needs acknowledgment, not an argument.
Track performance with context
Profile views can be interesting, but calls, website clicks, direction requests, menu clicks, and bookings are closer to business outcomes. Compare them over meaningful periods and annotate unusual closures, events, or ad campaigns.
